United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)

Jul 15, 2024 | News

From Tuesday 16 July, all children and young people in Scotland under the age of 18 will have protected rights under The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024.

The Act is a landmark piece of legislation that incorporates the UNCRC into Scots law, empowering our children and young people to claim their rights. The Scottish Government will be the first devolved government in the world to directly incorporate UNCRC.

This new legislation requires us all to take proactive steps to ensure the protection of children’s rights across all services and decision-making processes. For more information about children’s right across North Lanarkshire please visit North Lanarkshire Council’s website.

To help raise awareness of children’s rights, a group of young people developed a campaign called #MakeitRight

Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire has signed up to Care Opinion, a website which allows patients to share their stories online.

Care Opinion is an independent, not-for-profit, website that gives patients and carers a way of voicing what they think of the services they receive.

We will listen to positive and negative comments and respond to those in a way that is honest, supportive and constructive.

We will use this feedback to make our services in North Lanarkshire the best they can be.
