With the new United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024, infants, children and young people under 18 (and their advocates) have a new ability to use the courts to enforce their rights. Therefore, as NHS Lanarkshire employees, we must understand those rights, particularly in the context of our own work. There is a six-month commencement period for the Act, with most provisions coming into effect in July.
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) has been commissioned to provide support to health boards to implement the Act. They will run short children’s rights awareness sessions which will be a helpful, basic introduction to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
More support and local information will be available over the coming months.
During the session, NES will cover the following topics:
- What the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is;
- What the Act means for you;
- How to look at your work through a child rights lens.Â
Who is this session for?
The session is for everyone. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the rights of infants, children and young people under the age of 18 are protected, not just those working directly in children’s services but across NHS Lanarkshire.
