Background
FASD is a significant public health issue for Scotland and is a lifelong condition, and without early diagnosis and appropriate support starting in childhood, is associated with secondary disabilities including reduced educational attainment and outcomes, mental health and addiction problems, involvement with the criminal justice system, and premature death from violence, accidents and suicide. Timely intervention can however ameliorate such risks allowing individuals to achieve their full potential.
The FAAST team invite Health and Social Care Practitioners to attend our 90 minute training course on the Fundamentals of FASD, which will provide you with an in-depth overview of prenatal alcohol exposure and FASD.
The course includes the following topics:
- Scotland’s relationship with alcohol and consolidated understanding of alcohol units and alcohol guidelines.
- Factors that can contribute towards alcohol use during pregnancy as well as how alcohol affects the developing fetus.
- An introduction to FASD and how it can affect people who have the condition.
- The prevalence of FASD.
- Sources of further information and signposting opportunties.
